How much of what I donate actually goes to help the Veterans in need?
Our goal is to use 100% of the funds generated through rider pledges to expand the VA’s cycling program. Funds raised through sponsorships will be used to cover the expenses of developing and managing two fully supported, multi-day rides plus the additional one rides that will happen in 2008. It is a big undertaking but with the support of the VA’s Volunteer Office and concerned corporations we will make this happen.
What type of support will be provided on the rides?
Each participant will have hotel housing (dbl. occupancy, snacks, neutral support, rest stops, meals (breakfast/dinner) each day during the ride.
Will I receive a cycling jersey or T-shirt?
Yes, each participant will receive a Road 2 Recovery jersey to wear during the ride
How would our Company's partnership support of this effort help these Veterans directly with their needs?
Many returning veterans need help and support from the Veterans Administration in recovering from physical injuries and/or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The VA has discovered through actual efforts that cycling is a very effective therapy for both physical and mental rehabilitation. The entire VA multidisciplinary staff has come to support the use of bicycling as an intervention for better psychological and physical health. Recreation Therapy, Readjustment Counseling, Social Work, Health Science, and Nursing staffs have participated as leaders of the rides. Since October 2005, over 110 patients have ridden over 8,200 miles with some individual patients completing as many as 35 rides and a total of 430 miles during their admission.
I or my company already supports our Troops involved in Iraq and Afghanistan, how is this effort different?
One of the biggest issues our Country faces is treating the physical and mental issues our returning troops are dealing with when they return home. We owe them a debt of gratitude and that includes providing them with the best treatment and care possible. The R2R ride is focused on one successful treatment platform and helping the VA expand that treatment to as many VA’s as possible.
